Fire Destroys Yager Residence

(Cameron)  Longtime Maysfield residents H.M. & DeLane Yager lost their home and all their belongings in an early morning fire Thursday.  The fire broke out in the garage area on the west end of the house, and spread quickly.  Mr. Yager told KMIL News at the scene that he and his wife were awakened by the smell of smoke.  By the time firefighters arrived, the west end of the residence was fully involved.  Fireman Henry Horelica said 3 Cameron Fire units and 16 firefighters responded around 4:15 a.m., along with Cameron's Scott & White EMS.   The Hearne Fire Department provided mutual aid.  First reports indicated the Yagers were unaccounted for, however, they escaped unharmed.  Firemen were hampered with lack of water, after trucks emptied their initial load.  After battling the blaze for an hour and a half, Horelica said firefighters shifted to a defensive mode when it was determined that the house could not be saved.  The fire is believed to have started in the garage area, but the cause is uncertain.
