Ten Cameron Jr.
High Students and two adults were hurt, and a 16 year old Belton Student was killed in a
two vehicle head-on collision involving a Cameron School bus shortly after 12:30 am Sunday
six miles East of Temple on U.S. 190. All 12 injured were treated and released from
Scott And White Hospital in Temple. Killed in the accident was Michael Cauthen, 16
of Belton. According to Bell County DPS, the bus
was headed East on U.S. 190 and Cauthen was westbound in a '95 Ford when he drifted into
the Eastbound lane striking the bus head on.
An emergency room Doctor from Scott And White evaluated
each student at the scene of the accident to determine which students needed further
treatment. Students taken to the hospital were Erin Kahler, Megan Augustino, Megan
Gelner, Annisha Williams, Kenneth |
Scott, Jamie Coppen, Clinton Culpepper,
William Carter, Jamie Dunsmoore, and Chagoll Buhl. Adults who were checked over at
the hospital were Etta Reynolds of Cameron, and the bus driver James Stalnaker of
Burlington. One Cameron EMS unit was
among the emergency vehicles called to the scene. The Wreck was investigated by Bell
County DPS Trooper Thomas Nipper. Milam County Sheriff Charlie West assisted at the
scene. Cameron Business Manager Maxie Morgan, who spent most of the night at the
scene, and the hospital, said the 1996 International bus sustained moderate front left and
rear axle damage.
The Cameron Jr. High Band students were returning home
after an all-day trip to Fiesta Texas in San Antonio. |
