Preliminary Autopsy Reveals Cause of Death State Fire Marshall Harry Bowers has ruled Monday's fire that killed a 3-year old child, as accidental. Young Jordan Jones, the son of Martha Sapp of Pettibone, and Joe Sanchez of Plainview, was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:20 pm by Justice of the Peace Chip Dunsmoor. Preliminary Autopsy results indicate the child died of smoke inhalation. Cameron and Buckholts fire departments responded just before 3 pm to the mobil home fire South of Pettibone on County Road 207. The Martha Sapp residence located on the Alan Jones place was completely engulfed when firefighters arrived. The child was not accounted for at the time, and presumed dead. At least two other children and the Morris' escaped the blaze without injury. It took firefighters several minutes to bring the blaze under enough control to search for the child. Fireman Henry Horlica located the body of the child around 4 pm. Bowers conducted an on-sight investigation, and concluded that the fire was electrical in origin, and started somewhere around the washer and dryer in a hallway of the mobil home. Firefighters were hampered in their efforts by the possibility that a nearby propane tank could explode from the intense heat. According to Deputy Greg Kouba, family members noticed the lights flicker, and then saw the smoke and flames. Mr. Jones, the child's grandfather, broke out a bedroom window where the small child was last seen. however flames engulfed the room preventing any rescue attempt.
