FATAL ACCIDENT KILLS ONE, 11 OTHERS INJURED
(Pettibone) An unidentified man was killed in this grinding collision just west of Pettibone on Highway 36 near Cameron.
Saturday's (9/11/99) accident occured when the driver of the late model Mazda Miata was traveling east on 36, while the bus, driven by 36 year old Kathleen Guzman, of Belton was headed west. Trooper Don Wardlaw told KMIL news that apparently the Miata veered off on the shoulder of his east bound lane, overcorrected and swerved in front of the bus and was struck on the passenger side in the rear. The driver of the car was starflighted to Scott and White hospital in Temple, where he died just before 8 pm Saturday night. Traffic was backed up for around an hour in both directions as Emergency crews assisted in clearing the scene and cleanup. |
