(CAMERON) The top cop in Milam County has resigned the post he was recently elected to.

Milam County Judge Steve Young confirmed this evening that County Sheriff Chris White resigned as of 1pm today. White cited personal reasons for his leaving and felt it in his and the county’s best interest to step aside at this time. He had just been elected to his first full term in office this past November and had ascended to sheriff upon the unfortunate passing of the late, longtime Sheriff David Greene in 2018. Judge Young said he has tabbed Chief Deputy Mike Clore as interim sheriff and the county commissioners will take up naming a more official replacement at their next meeting. Any appointment to the post will likely only serve until the next election, set for next year.
