(ROBERTSON COUNTY) A man shot by authorities after a multi-county high-speed chase last week has been identified and booked.

The Robertson County Sheriff`s Office said Travis Barton is now in Robertson County Jail on charges of Evading Arrest and a hold from Colorado for failure to appear. No bond has been set. Robertson County Sheriff Gerald Yezak said deputies suspect Barton was stealing copper from a cell tower site in Robertson County on Friday morning when he took off after being approached. Barton then led authorities on a high-speed chase into Leon County where deputies deployed spike strips and punctured his tires. The Barton vehicle then crashed into a sign in Centerville. It was at this point that Texas Department of Public Safety troopers opened fire and wounded Barton in the hand. Barton was taken to the hospital for treatment and was not released until after the weekend. It remains unclear why troopers opened fire in the incident. No other information was released.
