(CAMERON) A man arrested nearly 2 years ago as part of a drug sting operation has been sentenced to a probation term this past week in Judge John Youngblood`s 20th District Court.
According to a press release from Milam County District Attorney Bill Torrey, 36-year-old Reginald Rideaux of Rockdale was given a 5-year term in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, probated 5-years with standard conditions. Rideaux must also pay a $2500 fine and $140 restitution to DPS after entering a guilty plea to the 3rd degree felony, Possession of a Controlled Substance Under 1 Gram in Drug Free Zone.
Rideaux was one of nearly 20 arrests made during a week long drug sting conducted by the Milam County Sheriff`s Office in October 2011. Milam County deputies, with the aide of Rockdale and Cameron PD executed search warrants during that week after concluding an 8-month investigation into the sales of narcotics.
Among other cases disposed of last week:
DEBORAH ANN SHIVERS, 27, of Rockdale, was sentenced to five (5) years confinement in TDCJ after pleading guilty to a 3rd Degree Felony Obtain Prescription by Fraud; was sentenced to five (5) years confinement in TDCJ after pleading guilty to a 3rd Degree Felony Bail Jumping-Fail to Appear and was sentenced to three (3) years confinement in TDCJ after pleading “True” to a Motion to Revoke Probation for an original 2nd Degree Felony Aggravated Assault with Deadly Weapon
LARRY IBARRA, 32, of Cameron, was placed on three (3) years Deferred Adjudication Probation with standard conditions of probation, and was ordered to pay $1,500 fine pleading guilty to a 3rd Degree Felony Assault Family Violence-Impede Breathing/Circulation
FRANK EDWARD CORONA, 41, of Cameron, was sentenced to five (5) years confinement in TDCJ after pleading guilty to a 2nd Degree Burglary of Habitation
LEAH LISA BERAN, 34, of Thorndale, was sentenced to two (2) years State Jail, probated for three (3) years with standard conditions of probation, $800 fine and $2,144.94 restitution to Stanley-Lynd Autoplex after pleading guilty to a State Jail Felony Theft $1,500 to $20,000
BRITTANY MARIE THOMPSON, 25, of Thorndale, was placed on five (5) years Deferred Adjudication Probation with standard conditions of probation, $2,500 fine and restitution to be determined by the court at a later hearing after pleading guilty to a 2nd Degree Felony Burglary of Habitation
JAMES WILLIAM NELSON, 30, of Bryan, was sentenced to two years State Jail, probated for three (3) years with standard conditions of probation and $800 fine after pleading guilty to a State Jail Felony Theft – Less than $1,500 with Priors
DAN ARTHUR BROWN, III, 23, of Youngsville, LA, was placed on two (2) years Deferred Adjudication Probation with standard conditions of probation, $2,500 fine and $140 restitution to DPS after pleading guilty to a Lesser Included Class A Misdemeanor Attempted Possession of Controlled Substance Less than One Gram
TIMOTHY JACK TREJO, 26, of Rockdale, was placed on five (5) years Deferred Adjudication Probation with standard conditions of probation after pleading guilty to a 3rd Degree Felony Evading Arrest with Motor Vehicle and was also placed on five (5) years Deferred Adjudication Probation with standard conditions of probation after pleading guilty to a 3rd Degree Felony Forgery of Government Instrument
RANDELL RAY BOWERS, 40, of Temple, was sentenced to six (6) months confinement in State Jail after pleading guilty to a State Jail Felony Attempted Prohibited Substance in Correctional Facility
And ADRIAN DONNEL MORRISON, 28, of Rockdale, was sentenced to ten (10) years imprisonment in TDCJ after pleading guilty to a 2nd Degree Felony, Possession with Intent to Deliver Controlled Substance.
MILAM SIU MAKE DRUG BUST
(CAMERON) Milam County Sheriff`s Office has made an arrest on the heels of an investigation into drug trafficking near a local elementary.
Kevin Bailey, 28, was arrested and charged with Possession of Marijuana 4 Ounces to 5 Pounds in a Drug Free Zone. Deputies executed a search warrant of his home on Terral Court after conducting a 2-month long investigation.
According to a press release from Milam County Sheriff David Greene, deputies raided the home and located over a pound of marijuana, items used to sell pot, a pistol, and nearly $1000 in cash. At this time, Bailey remains in Milam County Jail.
COMMISSIONERS TO CONSIDER RETIREE HEALTHCARE PROGRAM
(CAMERON) Milam County Commissioners opened a new window to facilitate early retiree county healthcare options.
During their regular meeting Monday, the Court moved to open a temporary early retirement window to qualify for county healthcare. From September 23rd through October 31st, county employees will be able to retire at 57 with 16-years of service, 50 with 28-years of service, or 63 with 10-years of service. Those new thresholds knock off 2-years in age and service at each tier.
In other business, the Court moved to allow Judge John Youngblood to hold 20th District Court jury call for the upcoming murder trial outside of the Milam County Courthouse. District Court is expected to call as many as 500 panelists as part of the jury pool for Brandon Charles Cotton`s murder trial. Cotton and another man were arrested in connection to the shooting death of Sandra Phillips of San Gabriel.
TEMPLE AIRPORT CONSTRUCTION
(TEMPLE) Construction continues this week as part of a Temple airport renovation project.
Temple`s Draughon-Miller Central Texas Regional Airport is in the midst of a $6.8 million construction project, termed the largest in its history. Part of the project includes reconstructing the airport`s secondary runway and rehabilitating the taxiways and emergency generators.
The City of Temple is expected to pay about $760,000 as part of the total project cost. The renovations are expected to be complete by April of next year.
CAMERON CITY COUNCIL
(Cameron) Cameron City Council will hold a Special Meeting this week.
Cameron City Council will have a budget workshop and tour of City facilities and properties. The special meeting will be Wednesday beginning at 5:30pm at the Cameron City Hall.
THORNDALE TRUSTEES TO MEET
(THORNDALE) Thorndale school board will meet this week to discuss their budget.
During a special meeting Thursday, the Board will meet to discuss and possibly adopt the end of year budget and amendments. Thursday`s special meeting begins at 6:30PM in the TISD board room.
ROCKDALE COUNCIL TO CONSIDER BUDGET, TAX RATE
(ROCKDALE) Rockdale City Council will meet in a series of special meeting this week to discuss their proposed tax rate and budget.
The Rockdale Council will meet Thursday in a pair of meetings to discuss the annual budget for 2013-14 and the levying of Ad Valorem taxes. The City is also set to take action on issuing Combination Tax and Revenue Certificates of Obligation. The special meetings Thursday begin at 5:30PM, with both meetings set to tackle the budget and tax rates.
DAY 2 OF HASAN SENTENCING
(Fort Hood) Day two of the sentencing phase of the court-martial of Nidal Hasan is scheduled for later today. Hasan could face the death penalty for carrying out the shooting massacre at Fort Hood in 2009. During testimony yesterday, jurors heard from 12 witnesses, including the father of Private Franscheska Velez. He told jurors he`s been dying slowly every since Velez and her unborn son were killed. He also said Velez` death, quote, "killed me down to the bottom of my soul." Hasan was convicted last week of killing Velez and 12 others.
YOUTH SOCCER REGISTRATION
(CAMERON) Kids in Cameron are being encouraged to sign up this year for youth soccer season.
Registration is underway through September 5th. Pick up registration forms at Ben Milam and Cameron Elementary, Classic Bank, the Cameron Herald, or Buckholts State Bank in Cameron.
