TEMPLE MAN SHOT, KILLED IN WEEKEND GUN BATTLE ID`ED2018-06-13

(TEMPLE) A Temple man shot and killed in a gun battle with Temple Police has been identified.

Bell County Justice of the Peace Don Engleking confirmed that 49-year-old Timothy Wayne Owen was killed during a gunfire exchange with Temple Police at the Glen Apartments early Saturday morning. Preliminary autopsy reports indicate that Owen died of gunshot wounds, though it was unclear how many times he had been shot. Police were originally called to a disturbance about 3:45AM Saturday at the apartments. As officers arrived, they were fired upon and so fired back in self defense, killing a man and wounding another person. Owens was pronounced dead at the scene. An 11-year-old boy was also wounded in the shootout and was taken to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries. In the aftermath, both officers were placed on paid leave pending an investigation. Neither officer was hurt and their names have not been released. Officials also indicated that Owen has a criminal history.
