(CAMERON) Cameron Police are seeking a local man who damaged a patrol car and ran off after a traffic stop.
to a press release from Police Chief Randy Dixon, police have issued an
arrest warrant for 41-year-old John Leorne Melton on charges of Evading
Arrest or Detention with previous convictions. Dixon said he remains at
large at this time.
According to the report, Officer Doug Smith
attempted a traffic stop of a Chevy pickup about 11PM Monday on N.
Travis because the truck did not have lights on. Smith said the truck
refused to stop at first, but finally pulled over. While making his
radio call to dispatch, the truck`s driver left the vehicle and took off
running. Smith said that when the man bailed, his pickup began to roll
backwards. The officer initially began to move his patrol car, but
realized the truck might have ended up rolling into traffic and allowed
it to strike his car. A woman inside the pickup was questioned and
identified the driver as Melton. Anyone with information into his
whereabouts should call Cameron PD at 697-6574.
