Cougar Theater presents scenes from William Shakespeare’s
A Midsummer Night’s Dream
The Cougar Theater Department at Rosebud-Lottwill be performing scenes from A Midsummer Night’s Dream. “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” by William Shakespeare is a whimsical and enchanting play, filled with magic, mistaken identities, and humorous events, often-involving fairies and otherworldly elements. As we begin, we see group of mechanicals (artisans), led by the comical Peter Quince (Perry Lorenz) as they are planning to put on a play for the Duke and Queen’s wedding, though their acting skills are, to say the least, unrefined.
Amongst the mechanicals, we meet Nick Bottom (Lane Endsley), a weaver by trade, who is boastful, overconfident, and somewhat oblivious to his own lack of skill. His larger-than-life personality and constant self-assurance make him a source of much of the play’s humor.
Meanwhile, in the magical forest, Oberon (Garrett Cook), the king of the fairies, and Titania (Ryleigh Alsup), the queen, are embroiled in a bitter quarrel over a young Indian boy whom Titania refuses to give up. In his desire to gain control of the boy, Oberon enlists the help of Puck (Haylee Alexis), a mischievous fairy. Oberon orders Puck to use a magical flower to make Titania fall in love with the first creature she sees upon waking, which turns out to be the ludicrously transformed Bottom, who has been given the head of a donkey.
Will all be right by the morning light? Come find out as we navigate through the difficulties of this comic and enchanted tale of actors and fairies. Other cast and include Khiara Hernandez (Francis Flute), Peyton Williams (Tom Snout), Havoc Hernandez (Robin Starveling), Mariah Bouvier (Sung), Carmen Jenkins (Mote) Sara
