William Harris Tarver February 16, 1947 – February 20, 2025

William Harris Tarver, known affectionately as Bill, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 78. Born on February 16, 1947, in Temple, Texas, and raised in Rosebud, Texas, Bill lived a life filled with love, service, and commitment to his family, community, and country.

Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Janice Louise Tarver; his parents, Mary Dicia Harris Tarver, and John Albert Tarver Jr.; his brother, John Albert Tarver III; and nieces Diana Schuetze and Jill Tarver Stoneburner.

A proud 1967 honors graduate of the New Mexico Military Institute, Bill laid the foundation for a life defined by service and a passion for learning. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 1969 and was stationed in Korea as a procurement officer, a chapter of his life that further fueled his dedication to his country. Bill’s love of education never waned. In 1999, he earned a master’s degree in Technical & Professional Writing from Northeastern University, and in 2005, he completed a Master of Science in Information Technology Management from Franklin Pierce University.

Bill’s career as a technical writer in the aerospace industry showcased his expertise and attention to detail, but it was his zest for life and his ability to connect with people that truly defined him. He had a rare gift for storytelling, captivating all who crossed his path, and his joy in life was evident in his many interests. Bill cherished the traditions of the New Mexico Military Institute, loved reading, football, history, and found great pleasure in theater, music (from classical to modern), photography, and travel. A perfect day for Bill often involved enjoying a cold drink in the summer warmth of Cape Cod.

Bill’s greatest joys were found in the company of his wife Janice, his diverse and long-lasting friendships as well as in the bond he shared with his beloved dogs. He is survived by his sister, Gail Tarver; stepson, Kristofor Swanson; niece, Jennifer Tarver; and cousins, Beverly Cox, and Jack Tarver.

Bill’s legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, and his memory will be cherished forever. A Memorial Service will be held on March 15, 2025, at Cook-Gerngross-Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Rosebud, Texas. Visitation will take place from 10:00 to 11:00 AM, followed by the service at 11:00 AM.
