(MILAM COUNTY) Texas Department of Public Safety troopers confirm they are investigating a fatality crash that occurred Monday evening.
According to the Milam County Sheriff’s Office, the wreck involved two vehicles, and the highway was closed around 4:40pm p.m. SH 36 mm 528 near Milam / Burleson County line.
Texas DPS Troopers were notified of a multi-car crash involving a truck tractor semi-trailer. An unknown model Ford sedan, operated by a 43-year-old Clint McCaffety of Temple, Texas, was stopped at the direction of a flagger for construction in the westbound traffic lane. A 2015 Kia SUV, operated by a 45-year-old female from Fort Bend, Texas, was stopped behind the Ford. A 2025 Freightliner truck tractor, operated by a 26-year-old male from Bellmead, Texas, was approaching the two stopped vehicles. For reasons unknown, the driver of the truck tractor semi-trailer failed to control speed and collided with the two vehicles. The Kia was pushed into the ditch and rolled over. The female driver of the Kia was transported to Scott and White in Temple, Texas for treatment. McCaffety along with his two passengers died as a result of the collision. A 16-year-old male and 39-year-old passenger identified as Meghan Nicole McCaffety, of Temple, Texas were pronounced deceased on scene. The crash investigation is active and currently open. For a completed copy of the crash go to Texas.gov. Next of kin have been notified.
Texas DPS would like to remind drivers to always give your undivided attention when driving. Be aware in construction and work zones for unexpected delays.
(MILAM) Authorities continue to investigate what turned out to be a bomb hoax this morning.
The Milam County Sheriff’s Office responded just after 7:20AM today, April 1st, following a phone
call to Rockdale Police Department regarding a bomb threat to Rockdale High School.
Out of an abundance of caution, Rockdale Independent School District administrators had students and
staff sent to an alternate location. Deputies then conducted a thorough search of the entire
campus using bomb sniffing dogs. That search turned up nothing and it was deemed there was no
credible threat to students or staff. Texas Department of Public Safety began a trace of the number
used by the caller, which was found to not be in the area. The scene was cleared in about 2 hours
and students were allowed to return to campus. Sheriff Mike Clore reminds the public that though
this is April Fools’ Day, this type of threat or hoax is a felony. Deputies and our state and federal
partners will continue to investigate and locate the person behind this hoax. Also responding and
assisting at the scene were Rockdale Police, DPS, and Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department.
