(CAMERON) Lynn Laywell Raesz Obituary
It is with heavy hearts and enduring love that we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, Lynn Laywell Raesz, on April 3, 2025, at the age of 67. Born February 1, 1958 and raised in Cameron, Texas, Lynn carried the warmth and values of her hometown throughout her life. Her kind heart, selflessness, and boundless love for her family, friends, and animals will forever be cherished and remembered.
A natural caregiver from an early age, Lynn dedicated her life to the well-being of others, always putting their needs before her own. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond family, and she cultivated deep, lasting friendships throughout her life, always providing sincere encouragement and unwavering support.
Lynn pursued her education from Yoe High School on to Mary Hardin-Baylor University and the University of Texas at Austin, eventually building a career in dermatology where she was known for her compassion and dedication to helping others. Lynn married her husband Gary on April 30, 1983 in a candlelight ceremony at First Presbyterian Church in Cameron, TX. In the years that followed, alongside her husband, she worked tirelessly to build a successful flooring business in Austin, TX from the ground up. As an incredible business partner, devoted wife and loving mother, she found a way to gracefully balance her professional life with her commitment to family and raising her two sons.
Lynn was ever-present for her children, showing up for them in every academic and athletic pursuit. She was their biggest cheerleader and volunteered for their activities, always ensuring they knew they were loved and supported. She also encouraged their passion for the outdoors, taking great pride in their memories bonding with their father, hunting, fishing, and connecting with nature.
Lynn was an enthusiastic cook and baker who truly embodied the idea of making food with love. She cherished the memories created in the warmth of her kitchen, where she crafted both her own specialties and family recipes passed down through the generations. Whether preparing a Sunday family dinner, her famous chocolate pudding pie, or a holiday feast – especially for her favorite Valentines and Christmas festivities, she found joy in creating meals that brought people together.
One of Lynn’s greatest joys was spending time in her beloved hometown of Cameron. The beauty of the countryside and the warmth of this close-knit community brought her a profound sense of peace. Lynn adored her Daddy “Big Ed” and often fondly recalled time spent with him from the Go-To Ranch to his funeral home Marek-Burns-Laywell. Her childhood stories were always filled with a deep appreciation for her roots.
Lynn enjoyed the serenity of the beach and most of all the tranquility of her hill country home at The Raesz Ranch, where she spent many joyful hours feeding the deer, ducks and donkeys and always accompanied by her loyal puppies. Her affection for animals was unmatched—whether rescuing a stray or playing dress-up with her beloved pets, her deep bond with nature, animals, and the land was intertwined with her love for family and God.
Lynn’s deep faith was a cornerstone of her life, providing strength and guiding her with wisdom, compassion and humility. She lived with unwavering convictions while also embracing a lighthearted spirit, brightening any room with her infectious laughter and ability to bring joy, even in the toughest times.
Though she may no longer be physically with us, Lynn’s spirit will continue to live on through the memories she created, the love she shared, and the lives she touched. Her impact on us and this world will never be forgotten.
Rest in peace, dear Lynn. You will be deeply missed and forever loved.
