(MILAM)  Last Night , Authorities in Milam County responded to a fire on the historic Bryant Station Bridge.

On Monday night around 11:00 p.m., Milam County authorities were alerted about a fire on the historic Bryant Station Bridge over Little River.

This wood and metal bridge was built in 1909 and is next to its more modern concrete replacement which was built in 2002 for County Road 106.

Authorities were able to contain the majority of the fire, according to Milam County Fire Marshal’s Office.

Based on the danger to firefighters from the topography and inherent hazards of the deteriorated condition of the bridge, the Milam County Fire Marshal’s Office discontinued extinguishment efforts on Monday night.

Crews will continue to fight the fire in the daylight and more extensive damage surveys will be conducted.

Authorities say at this time the fire is considered suspicious.

If you have any information on the cause of the fire please email the Milam County Fire Marshal’s Office at firemarshal@milamcounty.net.
