San Gabriel Baptist Church of Thorndale announces that Reverend Russell Thornburg has accepted the pastorate of the congregation effective immediately.
Thornburg, a native of Pampa, Texas, is a graduate of The University of Mary Hardin Baylor and holds a Master of Divinity from Southwestern Theological Seminary in Dallas. He was licensed by First Baptist Church in Rockdale and ordained by Blackjack Baptist Church at the beginning of his ministry. His journey has been to be missionary pastor in Minnesota most of his ministry. He and his wife, Beth, have returned south to be closer to his wife’s parents.
San Gabriel Baptist Church is one of the several recognized historical churches in Milam County. The congregation was established in 1856 and has served the community and county continuously since that time. The congregation strives to be a church that is relevant in today’s society, while maintaining Biblical perspectives, centering all actions upon the Word of God and the teachings of Christ.
Services and church sponsored events are open to all who desire to experience a fulfilling Christian lifestyle. Regular services include Sunday School and Worship each Sunday at 10 and 11 am, respectively. Also, a weekly Bible study and supper is observed each Wednesday evening at 6 pm. The church is located at 263 CR 421A just 6 miles north of Thorndale about 2 blocks off the intersection of FM 486 and FM 3061.
