Dr. Roy Gene Chaney, age 91, of Pearland, Texas, passed away on Sunday, February 16th, 2025. He was proceeded in death by his wife of fifty years Wanda Lou Chaney, parents, James Martin and Janie May Chaney, and his brothers, James M. and John Dale Chaney. He is survived by his son David Roy Chaney, daughter-in-law Tara Chaney, daughter Laurel Diane Dewease, son-in-law Glen Dewease, and grandchildren Lance Ryan Locher, Trenton Chase Locher, Meghan Elise Chaney, and Dalton Reid Chaney. He is survived by his sisters Charlotte Saladino and Sandra Payne and husband, Richard. He is survived by his brothers Ernest Chaney, wife Anna, and Sidney Chaney, wife Jacque, along with numerous nephews and nieces.
Roy was born on September 22nd, 1933, in Utopia, Texas. After Roy graduated from Utopia High School, he attended Texas A&M College in College Station, where he graduated in 1958 with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. After graduating, he met the love of his life, Wanda Lou Teagel in Tivoli, Texas. They married and reported to Fort Ord, California, where he directed the Veterinary Clinic on base. After he completed his service in the Army, they moved back to Texas where he opened his veterinary practice in Pasadena, Texas at Angel Animal Hospital. He was successfully in practice for over thirty years where he treated thousands of animals, helped mentor future veterinarians, and was instrumental in opening one of the first animal emergency clinics in the nation.
Roy had an outgoing personality with a great sense of humor, and he never met a stranger. He enjoyed ranching, working with cattle, playing cards, traveling, spending time with friends and family, and cheering for his beloved Texas A&M Aggies.
Funeral services will be 2:30 pm Friday, February 21st, 2025, at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron. He will be laid to rest in the Marlow Cemetery in Marlow community near Cameron.
